What is this for? Part: 2
Ok, so the last post I was asking the purpose of braille on the entrance of an O.R.
This time I want to know something else. Here in South Africa with our 11 official languages local shows on t.v. often carry subtitles. That’s fine, it let’s more than 1 culture enjoy something in common and also aids in teaching the languages to the viewers. This is often the case for English based shows. They will carry sub titles in one of the other 10 languages.
What gets to me though, an entire show will be in an African language and not have English sub titles. Look at something like a soccer match on SABC 1 on a Saturday afternoon. Ok, that’s a dumb example because it’s hard to subtitle a live soccer match, but if majority of the country share English as a common language, why not broadcast something that can’t be subtitled in the most commonly known language?
Just to clarify something I am saying, when I say common I am not meaning that it is majority spoken, but rather the most common language used across the different ethnic groups.
Now back to my point. Is it fair that more and more English based shows must sub title their content yet some (and I’m not saying all) shows don’t work the other way around? And again, I’m not saying every single English program has sub titles. I’m just saying they do more than others.

Haha. You must post on forums or chat regularly on IRC. Trying to cover every point, using weasel words; just say it.
Politicians are renaming everything they can and then turn around claiming “the people wanted it” when surprise, the people are complaining about it. Oh sorry, the white people.
It’s so thinly veiled but I suppose it’s admirable that people still strive to deny racism because it’s become taboo to speak your mind ever since the ANC “liberated” the country just to enslave it with a beast of their own making.
Screw “I’m not a racist, but ..” pretexts, I’m a racist because I see black people hijacking, raping, blowing up ATMs and generally stuffing up everything while black people in power build R90m fences around their plush residences while sitting back and saying crime isn’t a problem or an issue. I see crimes perpetuated against white people gain more prominence in the newspapers because guess who buys them. I’m not going to leave the country, I’m going to stay here and carry on bitching and voting against the ANC and pointing out all their stuff ups and when by some fluke they get something right, I’ll be there to tell them it’s not good enough.
“Why are you so negative?” Why must I be positive? Why must I believe all the bullshit being flung about concerning how this country is “alive with possibility” when those possibilities will never become reality at this rate or in the future? Every single working South African can list at the very least twenty things which the incumbent president and his ineffectual government does or rather doesn’t do that impedes progress in their own job. “Sorry, you can’t do anything today because the power is out thanks to us not listening and not building the additional power stations that would’ve prevented the predicted electricity shortage.” “Sorry, you can’t do anything today because Telkom just stuffed everything up and ADSL is having a nationwide problem.” “Sorry, you got married to a Pakistani because he had the money to pay off one of our Home Affairs official to get it done.” “Sorry, we don’t care how much money it’s going to cost and that it’s a waste of money, we’re going to build the Gautrein anyway.” Yeah? Sorry, I’m not declaring my income at the end of this month because if you’re not spending my taxes on service delivery, killing criminals or otherwise improving my life as a citizen then you must be wasting it. Sorry, I’m not paying my TV license because it’s the retarded thing to do considering my t.v. could probably be on its way to Soweto before I get back home tonight. Sorry, I don’t give a shit about your culture because you don’t give a shit about mine.
Haha. You must enjoy being able to anonymously rant and go wild speaking your mind and letting everything out while being able to keep yourself safe by doing it on a “public” medium.
But that aside, I agree with majority of what you are saying - as does a certain percentage of the country.
However, the majority don’t feel the same and until they do what can be done? Nothing.
I can’t remember exactly but was there not some confidence poll on how 2500 people in this country feel the president is doing? And they were confident in his actions or something stupid? How can 2500 people be a relevant sample group in a population of 40million odd.
There’s plenty that can be improved upon in this country. There’s plenty that can be improved upon in every country. Go anywhere and you will be a victim to those problems. It’s a fact of life.
Im afraid I agree with pretty much everything above
